Grade 5 titanium round bar is the strongest commercially available titanium grade. Aerospace engineers specify it for structural components because it combines a high strength-to-density ratio with strong corrosion resistance. At Forte Precision Metals, we’ve supplied and precision-ground titanium bar stock since 1994 from our Franklin Park, IL facility.
When a structural component has to carry a real load without adding unnecessary weight, Grade 5 delivers. It serves aerospace, marine, and medical applications. We stock it alongside nine other material families, all processed under our ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system, so every bar ships to your exact specification.
Why Grade 5 Titanium Is the Standard Choice for Aerospace Structural Work
Aerospace structural design demands a material that performs under load, resists corrosion, and keeps weight low. Grade 5 titanium, designated 6Al-4V, meets all three requirements. It’s the strongest commercially available titanium grade, which is why it consistently appears on aerospace structural specs for brackets, fastener bodies, and airframe components.
No other commercially available titanium grade matches Grade 5 when load-bearing performance is the priority. The commercially pure grades serve lighter-duty applications well, but Grade 5 is where structural aerospace requirements land. We stock it in both titanium stock and precision-ground bar stock forms at our Franklin Park facility.
Grade 5 Strength and Weight Advantage
Weight is a direct cost in aerospace design. Every pound saved in structure means better fuel efficiency or a higher payload. Grade 5 titanium delivers a high strength-to-density ratio, so your structural parts carry the required load in a smaller cross-section without the mass penalty that comes with steel alternatives.
Corrosion resistance is built into Grade 5 without needing a protective coating. Aerospace components face salt spray, humidity, and temperature cycling throughout their service life. Grade 5 holds its dimensions and structural integrity across all those conditions, which keeps maintenance requirements lower over the life of the assembly.
Other Titanium Grades We Stock
Grade 5 covers most aerospace structural requirements, but we carry the full titanium range. Grade 23 (6Al-4V ELI) adds better fracture toughness and lower oxygen content for applications where those properties are written into the design spec. Grade 6 (5Al-2.5Sn) offers good strength and weldability for aerospace use.
Grade 9 (3Al-2.5V) delivers medium strength with excellent corrosion resistance across automotive, aerospace, and medical applications. We also stock Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 12 for chemical, power generation, industrial, and medical requirements. Your team can source every grade from one ISO 9001:2015 certified supplier.
How We Process Titanium Bar at Our Franklin Park Facility
Our centerless grinding operation handles diameters up to 7 inches and lengths up to 24 feet. We hold tolerances as tight as plus or minus .0001 inch with a microfinish down to 8RA. That means the bar leaves our Franklin Park, IL facility already at the dimensional specification your print requires.
We also offer chamfering to remove burrs and create clean beveled ends, and bar straightening using rotary machines that handle non-ferrous bars, including titanium. Our custom machining operation handles parts up to 12 inches, 10 inches in diameter, and 8 feet in length, running CNC and CAD/CAM equipped with tolerances of plus or minus .005 inch.
Our Quality System and Shipping
Forte Precision Metals has held ISO 9001:2015 certification since 1994. Our quality process includes Advanced Quality Planning, Statistical Process Control, Gauge R&R, and Machine Capability Studies. For aerospace procurement teams, that means consistent dimensional output on every order, not just the first one.
Every titanium order ships protected in cardboard tubing, wooden boxes, wood crates, or custom wood boxes, depending on your requirement. We ship nationally and worldwide, so your facility location doesn’t limit access to precision ground titanium bar stock from a certified source.
